A Girl's Best Friend Shawl Kit
This lovely triangular shawl by Isabell Kraemer is worked flat in fingering weight yarn from the top down, and includes a textured body, contrasting stripes, and a perfect 3x1 rib at the edge. It's fun and entertaining, and a versatile but special addition to your daily wardrobe. Pompoms are added at the edge to make it even more special and personal -- you could also give tassels or fringe a try! We've made up this shawl in Lichen & Lace's beautiful 1-Ply Superwash Merino and Malabrigo's Mechita... the perfect combination. For our “Molly Ringwald” kit, we’ve used Manos del Uruguay Alegria... so soft!
For our shop sample, Gwen also held together a strand of fingering weight yarn with a strand of mohair/silk yarn in the teardrop section. (Please note that the pattern is not originally written to include mohair.) If you choose to include the mohair (and we LOVE mohair), we suggest using a smaller needle to achieve recommended gauge.
Important: While knitting our shop sample, Gwen came very close to running out of yarn for CC2 (the ecru coloured teardrop section). For some of our kit combinations there is a chance that the designer's recommended yardage may be insufficient. We are offering two options for these kits: the Play-It-Safe option, which includes an extra skein of CC2, or the Take-A-Risk option, which includes only the yardage required in the pattern. We strongly advise purchasing the Play-It-Safe kit to avoid running out of yarn.
If a combination has no "Take a Risk" option in the drop-down menu, that indicates that this specific combination includes 420 yards for the teardrop section. These combinations include: Amalfi Coast / Pompeii / Damascus Rose / Snapdragon Mix / Moons of Jupiter / Saturnalia / Molly Ringwald.
The pattern is not included in the kit: it is available for purchase on Ravelry. (Click here)
A US 4 (3.5 mm) 40" circular needle, or size needed to get gauge. (Please note that if you choose to add a strand of mohair silk with one of your colours like we did, you'll need another needle in a smaller size to maintain the correct gauge. Gwen used 3mm needles for hers.)
20 sts x 34 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) in Stockinette stitch on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles after blocking.
19 sts x 32 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) in Teardrop pattern on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but will affect yardage and final size when different.
Approximately 27.5” (70 cm) deep along center, 71” (180 cm) wingspan from tip to tip.
4 stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking tools and a fork (for the pompoms).

My yarn arrived so quickly and it was packaged so beautifully! The yarn looks perfect together, and I'm happy I spent a little extra and got the mohair to go with it. I'm going to cast this on right away! Love it!
