Woolpower: November Newsletter

We looked out the studio windows yesterday morning and couldn’t believe our eyes to see snow falling! We may live in Canada, but Vancouver Island is normally the mildest climate in the country. The sun is back out today, but yesterday's snow was a great reminder that time is flying by and gift-giving season is almost here.

We are excited to announce that Saltwater Purls will be hosting a knit night once a month at Sybil Andrews Cottage in Campbell River. These evenings will be a chance to meet other knitters, to share project ideas, and to get help from other knitters or from us. This is a free drop-in, but we will have a toonie jar out to help with the cottage rental. You can find us at the cottage the first Monday of the month, between 7pm and 9pm. Beginning Monday, November 6, we’ll have the needles out and the kettle on: we hope to see you there!

We're excited to be a stockist for Laine Magazine.  Coming to us from Finland, Laine is a high-quality knit and lifestyle magazine for makers.  Celebrating slow living and natural fibres, Laine challenges us to stop for a moment and breathe in the simple beauty of the world around us.  Order online, or drop by the studio to pick up your copy.

So many pretty things are in the studio right now. We’ve just received the fall colours of Dream in Color Smooshy. This is a new line for us, though Dream in Color is a long-standing producer of beautiful fingering-weight yarns in yummy dyes. Dream in Color also produces Jilly, a single-ply yarn with gorgeous colours and a beautiful soft hand. Both these yarns are fingering-weight 100% merino wool.

We have stocked up on Lykke Driftwood needles, both fixed and interchangeable, for winter. If you have yet to try these, you’ll find the warm wood kind to your hands, the smooth finish kind to your skin, and the almost-imperceptible joins kind to your yarn. The lifetime warranty is a great bonus. Send us your spouse and we’ll point them in the right direction.

Would you like to make yourself a little wish list? Load up a cart, take a screenshot, and email it to us. We’ll create a customer profile for you, and when your loved ones are stumped on December 21, send them round!

Gift cards are now available through our online store, too, if you want to leave your options open!

Happy knitting to you all,

Shannon & Gwen
